Building A Legacy

Lanford Brothers Company was founded in 1960 by brothers Jack and Stan Lanford. After a lifetime of growing up watching their father working as a contractor at his own company, Lanford & Slater, the two brothers sought to carry on the legacy of their father's name with a new focus on bridge and box culvert construction. Over the years, the company's expertise has moved from building new structures to providing innovated repairs for existing structures.

Today, Lanford Brothers Co. is made up of a team of 140 employee-owners with an unmatched reputation for quality of work and integrity. With our years of expertise and access to industry-leading equipment and project management technology, Lanford Brothers is able to provide top quality bridge repair services for municipalities and Departments of Transportation.

1953 Stan Lanford Sr., Jack and Stan Jr. form Lanford & Slater.
1955 Stan Lanford Sr. passes away after battling cancer.
1960 Lanford Brothers Co., Inc. is founded by Jack and Stan Lanford.
1963 Lanford Brother shifts focus to bridge work and begins long association with English Construction.
1971 Company gains new experience in building large bridges with jobs in West Virginia.
1980 Lanford Bros. Co. begins to specialize in bridge repair and purchases first milling machine.
1989 Company moves to new office and shop facility in North Roanoke.
1990s Company grows to 175 employees with more maintenance repair work and less new construction. Company wins multi-year bridge maintenance contracts with VDOT.
1990s Jack & Stan become the only brothers to serve as chairs of ARTBA.
2000 Company reaches more than 200 employees with 12 bridge crews, 6 milling crews, and a specialty division for shot blasting, grooving, and furnishing latex modified concrete.
2002 Purcase of Kirk-Neal, Inc. adds 20 experienced workers and guardrail and sign work capabilities.
2004 Jack and Stan retire from active management. Ken Lanford named President.
2006 Company becomes 100% employee owned.
2010 Company celebrates 50th Anniversary.
